Wilfrido Vargas

Wilfrido Vargas Radamés Martínez ( born April 24, 1949 in Altamira ) is a Dominican bandleader, trumpeter, singer and composer who is best known as Merenguemusiker.

Vargas attended from the age of ten the music school of his native town and headed twelve year as principal trumpet with his own band. In 1972 he founded the group in Santo Domingo Los Beduinos whose first album Wilfrido Vargas y sus Beduinos appeared as the first of seventeen albums in 1974 when Karen label. Some of the compositions came from Sonny Ovalle. International success came with the single Punto y Apartment El Barbarazoí.

The early 1980 's, a duo album with the singer of Beduinos, Sandy Reyes. In 1989 he moved to Sonotone label, published by the five albums, including the 1991 Grammy -nominated animation. In 1992 he was a guest star of the Festival de Viña del Mar, where he was awarded the Premio Gaviota de Plata, and entered the Auditorio Simón Bolívar up in Sao Paulo.

In 1993 he participated in Mexico at the Festival de Acapulco. In 1994 he was elected to the Gran Mariscal de los Carnavales de Barranquilla and received by the Dominican government the Order Heráldica de Cristobal Colón in the rank of Caballero.
