Wilhelm Archipelago

The Wilhelm Archipelago ( also Kaiser- Wilhelm- Islands, Wilhelm Archipelago ) is an archipelago off the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula ( Graham Land ) in Antarctica.

The Wilhelm Archipelago consists of a number of islands. The largest of these are the Booth Island and the Hovgaard Island. Which also belongs to the Wilhelm Archipelago Petermann Island is the southernmost point of many Antarctic cruises. The archipelago extends from the Bismarck - road in the southwest to the Lumus rock off the west coast of Graham Land. Geography

The Wauwermans Islands are the northernmost island group in the Wilhelm Archipelago. The Dannebrog Islands, which are located between the Wauwermans Islands and the Vedel Islands were first named by Eduard Dallmann 1873 Kaiser Wilhelm Islands. Nominated by the Belgica expedition, led by Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery in recognition of its support of the expedition through Denmark to the Dannebrog, and later the entire archipelago was originally given by Dallmann original name. The Dannebrog Islands follow the south west of the Vedel Islands Hovgaard Island, and the group of Stray Islands west of Petermann Island. About 10 km west of the Vedel Islands are the Myriad Islands. They received their name from the 1959 UK Antarctic Place -Names Committee because of the large number of small and tiny islands that comprises this group.

The French road separates this island groups from one another, from west to east consecutive series of archipelagos. On the Cruls Islands Roca Islands follow. Between these and the Argentine Islands are the Anagram Islands, the westernmost island Maranga bears a name that originated from an anagram of the word anagram. The Yalour Islands 1.5 km west of Cape Tuxen and the Berthelot Islands 2 km west of Deliverance Point and the Darboux island is 5 km west of Cape Perez further, the west coast of Graham Land offshore island groups and islands to the Wilhelm- archipelago belong. The Southwind Passage between the Betheder Islands, the southernmost island group in the Wilhelm Archipelago and Biscoe Islands limits the archipelago to the south. Lumus Rock is the southernmost point of the Wilhelm Archipelago.
