Wilhelm Haferkamp

Wilhelm Haferkamp ( born July 1, 1923 in Duisburg, † January 17, 1995 in Brussels ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD).

After graduation and military service Haferkamp studied economics and social sciences at the University of Cologne.

From 1955 to 1960 he was a member of the Broadcasting Council of the WDR. As a member of the union trade, banking and insurance, he was from 1957 to 1962 state chairman of the DGB North Rhine -Westphalia, then to 1967, head of department for economic policy in the DGB Main Board.

From 1967 to 1973 he was European Commissioner for Energy, from 1970 to 1973 also responsible for the internal market. Then he was responsible until 1977 for the Economy, Finance and Budget. From 1977 to 1985 he was Commissar for Foreign Affairs, from 1970 to 1985 and Vice- President of the Commission.

From 1962 to 1966, again in 1967 for three months, he held a seat in the state parliament of North Rhine -Westphalia.
