Wilhelm Hummel

Wilhelm ( Willy ) Hummel ( born December 13, 1872 in God, Love, † March 22, 1939 in Davos ) was a Swiss painter, draftsman and printmaker.

Life

William Hummel was a grandson of the composer Johann Nepomuk Hummel and a son of the painter Carl Hummel. In 1913 he founded his own art school in Zurich. From 1921 to 1927 he worked as a teacher of figure drawing at the Zurich School of Applied Arts. Around 1934 he lived in Florence, most recently in Davos. He dealt mainly with landscapes, portraits and still lifes.

William Hummel had the valuable estate of his grandfather Johann Nepomuk Hummel and his wife Elisabeth Rockel, which his daughter living in Florence in the 1970s, the Goethe Museum in Dusseldorf left.
