Wilhelm Niklas

Wilhelm Niklas (* September 24, 1887 in Traunstein, † April 12, 1957 in Munich) was a German politician ( CSU).

Life and career

Wilhelm Niklas was the son of Traunstein secondary school teacher John Nepomuk Niklas (1847-1912) and younger brother of Agrikulturchemikers Hans Niklas.

After graduation in 1906 Niklas studied law and political science, but then from 1907 to 1912 agriculture and veterinary medicine in Munich. During his studies, he joined the fraternity in 1906 Arminia Munich (now the Munich fraternity Arminia Rhenaniastraße ) at. 1910 was his veterinary approval. From 1910 to 1912 he also worked as a research assistant at the Veterinary University in Munich. In 1912 he passed the examination for the state veterinary service in Bavaria. 1913 he obtained his PhD Dr.- Ing. at the Technical University of Munich with the thesis " The development of the Bavarian cattle Insurance Institute in the first 15 years of its existence ."

He then worked as an animal breeding inspector until 1915. From 1915 to 1916 he worked as a lecturer in the Bavarian Interior Ministry and from 1916 to 1919 in the War Food Office in Berlin. From 1920 to 1925 he was then as Ministerial Counsellor in the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Then he worked as a department manager in the Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture. In 1935, he was moved into temporary retirement because he had refused to join the Nazi Party. By the end of the war in 1945 he was a farmer in agate Wies. In 1945 he was appointed Deputy Director of the Bavarian State Office for Food and from 1947 until his retirement in 1955 he has held a teaching position as Professor at the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Munich.

On April 12, 1957 Niklas died in Munich Red Cross Hospital from the effects of a cervical fracture, which he had sustained in a car accident in Austria.

Party

Niklas belonged in 1945 to the founding members of the CSU. From 1949 to 1953 he was a member of the CSU Board.

Member of Parliament

After Niklas (CSU ) had been nachgewählt in the constituency Donauwörth on May 27, 1951 for the late Rep. Martin Loibl, he was on 30 May 1951 Member of the German Bundestag. At the end of its term in 1953, he retired from Parliament again.

Public offices

From 1945 to 1947, Niklas State (or State Secretary from 1946 ) of the Bavarian State Ministry of Food and Agriculture ( 1946: and Forestry), 1948-1949 Deputy Director of the Department for Food, Agriculture and Forestry of the United Economic Area.

The first cabinet of Konrad Adenauer, he was one of 20 September 1949 to 20 October 1953, as Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Forestry. His son Josef Ertl held the same office during the social-liberal coalition from 1969 to 1982 for the FDP.
