Wilhelm Schirmer

(August) William ( Ferdinand ) Schirmer ( born May 6, 1802 in Berlin, † June 8, 1866 in Nyon ) was a German painter.

The name similarity and overlap in lifetime subject and lead to frequent confusion with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer ( 1807-1863 ).

Life

Wilhelm Schirmer began his career as a painter of flowers. Until 1823 he was employed by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin. Then he devoted himself to landscape painting and was involved in the transformation of Park and Castle Glienicke, where he worked with Peter Joseph. The years 1827-1831 he spent in Italy.

After his return he settled in Berlin. In this time the collaboration with Prince Hermann von Pueckler for the illustrations in the hints of landscape gardening falls. From 1839 he taught landscape painting at the Berlin Academy and in 1843 (1840 for " Carl Blechen (1798 - 1840) experience and transgressions " Gerd -Helge Vogelstein Becker Publisher Abs.3 p.115 ) Professor.

He died June 8, 1866 in Nyon on Lake Geneva, the return from a trip to Italy.
