Wilhelm Winternitz

Wilhelm Winternitz (* March 1, 1834 in Joseph City, Bohemia (now Czech Republic); † February 22, 1917 in Vienna ) was an Austrian internist, Hydrotherapeut and balneologist.

Winternitz studied medicine in Prague and Vienna, where he was a pupil of v.Oppolzer, Skoda and the other Viennese medical sizes. In 1857 he received his doctorate for Dr. Med and habilitated in 1865 as a lecturer in hydrotherapy. His second habilitation of Internal Medicine took place in 1874 and in 1881 he was appointed Associate Appointed professor and was a full professor since 1899.

Building on Vincenz Prießnitz it has expanded its hydropathisches Kaltwasserkurverfahren to modern hydrotherapy and founded in 1865 in Kaltenleutgeben the second local cold water sanatorium and later " hydropathic establishment Professor Winternitz ," a so-called. Spa. 1899 Winternitz was appointed the first head of the hydrotherapy clinic in the General Outpatient Clinic in Vienna and was the first chair of Hydriatik / hydrotherapy at a German university. Winternitz published a large number of scientific papers and monographs, primarily in connection with the hydrotherapy.
