The Wilkin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. In 2010, the County had 6576 inhabitants and a population density of 3.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) Breckenridge.
Geography
The County is located in western Minnesota at the confluence of the Bois de Sioux River and Otter Tail River to the Red River of the North. Here, the Bois de Sioux River and the Red River form the border with North Dakota. Not far from the southwestern Countygrenze is the intersection of the three states of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. The county has an area of 1947 square kilometers, of which a square kilometers of water surface. At the Wilkin County borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The Wilkin County was formed on March 18, 1858 from portions of Cass County and the defunct Pembina County. It was named after Alexander Wilkin, a colonel in the Union troops who fell in the Civil War.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Wilkin County 6576 people in 2658 households. The population density was 3.4 people per square kilometer. In the 2658 households lived statistically 2.43 per person.
The racial the population was composed of 97.0 percent white, 0.3 percent African American, 1.2 percent Native American, 0.4 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.0 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 2.5 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
