Will County, Illinois

The Will County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2010, the County had 677 560 inhabitants and a population density of 312.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Joliet.

The Will County is part of the Chicago metropolitan area.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern Illinois and southern and south-eastern suburban area of Chicago. It has an area of 2200 square kilometers, of which 32 square kilometers are water surface.

The County will, whose confluence is the Kankakee River and flows through the Des Plaines River, the two headwaters of the Illinois River immediately downstream of the western border of the County. Other watercourses are the Du Page River, the Illinois and Michigan Canal and the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.

History

The Will County was formed on January 12, 1836 from parts of Cook County and Iroquois County. It was named after Conrad Will, an early pioneer, politician and businessman, who ran his salt mines in southern Illinois with slaves. A law allowed the hiring of slaves in other states and their use in slave- free Illinois.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Will County 677 560 people in 221 722 households. The population density was 312.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 221 722 households lived statistically 3.01 per person.

The racial the population was composed of 81.6 percent white, 11.5 percent African American, 0.4 percent Native American, 4.8 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.7 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, with 15.9 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

28.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 61.9 percent were between 18 and 64 and 9.7 percent were 65 years or older. 50.3 percent of the population was female.

The median income for a household was $ 76,453. The per capita income was $ 30,199. 7.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
