Willem Andriessen

Willem Nicolaas Christiaan Andriessen ( born October 25, 1887 in Haarlem, The Netherlands, † March 29, 1964 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch composer and musician.

Like his brother Hendrik Andriessen he graduated from the Conservatory of Amsterdam. From 1910 to 1918 he was a lecturer at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, from 1918 to 1924 at the Conservatory of Rotterdam and last from 1924 to 1953 at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, since 1937 as a director. He was a renowned interpreter of piano works by Beethoven and Schumann.

As a composer, he preferred a late - romantic style and created works for piano, songs, two piano concerts and a mass.
