Willerwald

Willerwald is a commune with 1521 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The community Willerwald in northeastern Lorraine is located about 30 meters altitude above the Saar valley, between the towns Sarralbe and Sarreguemines. The 6.3 km ² large municipality on the border of Alsace is drained by the Hopp Bach, from Waldschein ditch and from Dorrenbach. Willerwald is surrounded by three major forest areas ( Forêt de Sarralbe, Forêt de Hambach and Forêt de Sarreguemines ), but the church has no part in. Through the south of the municipality leads the Saar Canal (Canal de la Sarre of Houillères ), the strongly meandering Saar forms the southern boundary of the municipality.

Neighboring communities of Willerwald are Hambach in the North, East Melbourne (Alsace ) in the east and Sarralbe the south and west.

History

As Wilre the site appears for the first time in 1240 in a document. He was temporarily placed under even the bishops of Metz in the possession of the Lords of Sarralbe. After the settlement in the 16th century was without form, it was re-established in 1618 under its present name as a typical street village. From the founding of no more buildings have been preserved. Instead of the built in neo-Gothic style in 1911 and with a 60 meter high tower and 1940 ruined church now stands the church of Saint -Nicolas, which was built in 1955. At the former station Willer Forest at the track Sarralbe -Hambach, which still serves the freight, remembers the street name Rue de la Gare.

Economy and infrastructure

To Willerwald crop is mainly grown. The community itself is mainly residential area for many workers from the nearby farms, which include Smartville and petrochemical operation of the Ineos Group.

Transport links

Due to the high traffic Willer Forest National road leads 61 (Saarbrücken - Phalsbourg ). The community also has a direct connection to the Paris-Strasbourg motorway (connecting Sarreguemines ). The nearest railway station is located in the neighboring Sarralbe on the railway line Sarreguemines - Sarrebourg, which is operated by the Company TER Lorraine.
