Willi Plett

William Plett ( born June 7, 1955 in Asunción, Paraguay ) is a former Canadian professional ice hockey player who played during his playing career for the Atlanta Flames, Calgary Flames, Minnesota North Stars and Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League. The attack player was considered Enforcer because of its body-hugging style of play and robustness.

Career

Willi Plett began his career in 1972 at the Niagara Falls Flyers in the Southern Ontario Junior A Hockey League, before moving to the Ice Hockey team the St. Catharines Black Hawks in the Ontario Hockey Association in 1975. In a total of 26 games he reached 16 points and received 105 penalty minutes. Plett was selected at the NHL Amateur Draft 1975 by the Atlanta Flames in the fifth round at 80th overall position. In the 1975/76 season, he gained his first experience in the National Hockey League when he ran aground in four games, point and remained unpunished. However, almost the entire season denied the attack player in the Central Hockey League with the Tulsa Oilers and quickly established itself as an integral part of the team. In the following season, he ran on in 67 NHL games for the Flames and collected 57 points scorer. The team qualified for the playoffs and lost in the first round series against the Los Angeles Kings in three games with 1:2 and thus different from the competition. In the same year Plett was distinguished as the best rookie with the Calder Memorial Trophy.

In the following three years he reached a constant yield points, did not come with the Flames in the play- offs, however, beyond the first round. In 1980 the franchise was relocated to Calgary and now appeared as Calgary Flames in appearance. His greatest success with the team he succeeded in the 1980/81 season when the Flames were advancing to the third play-off round and documents in six games to the Minnesota North Stars. This was his best season in terms of points with a total of 68 points, which he realized with 38 goals and 30 templates. Sold it in 1982, based in Calgary team in a barter along with a fourth- round election to the Minnesota North Stars in exchange alternated Steve Christoff, Bill Nyrop and a second-round draft pick to the Flames. As noted throughout his career include Plett also with the North Stars to the seeded players and introduced in the 1983/84 season with a total of 367 penalty minutes his career record.

In the same season he reached with the team a place in the Conference Finals and lost in four games against the Edmonton Oilers to Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, Mark Messier and Paul Coffey. On September 8, 1987, he was transferred in exchange for Pat Price of the New York Rangers, for whom he completed a single game and was released in the NHL Waiver Draft approximately one month later. The Boston Bruins then secured his services. The Canadian qualified with the Bruins for the finals for the Stanley Cup and lost with the team again against the Edmonton Oilers in four games. Then he ended his active career.
