Willi Schulz

Willi Schulz ( born October 4, 1938 in Wattenscheid ) is a former German football player.

Club Players

Willi Schulz began his footballing career in July 1950 at the Westphalian amateur club Union Günnigfeld. For the 1960/61 season he moved to FC Schalke 04 in the Oberliga West, then one of the five top divisions in German football. After Schalke Table in the second Bundesliga 1964 /65 and the descent escaped only by the increase in the Bundesliga on 18 clubs, Schulz moved to 135 games for Schalke for Hamburger SV. Had he been playing mostly on the position of the center runner, he developed in Hamburg as Libero, sometimes Vorstopper one of the best German defenders of the late 1960s and early 1970s. A 5th place in the 1970/71 season was his best Bundesliga with Hamburg placement. National players

During his time at Union Günnigfeld the then coach Dettmar Cramer DFB became aware of the young talent. After Schulz had come to one mesh inserts in the junior and in the B Team, appointed national coach Sepp Herberger amateur players for the first time at a senior international game; it was the game against Yugoslavia on 20 December 1959 in Hannover (1:1). His 66th and last international match played Schulz on June 17, 1970 at the World Cup semi-final against Italy (3:4). After his career as a footballer Willi Schulz began as successful a life as a businessman in the insurance industry and machines. Hamburger SV he remained faithful as a club member, and his commitment led him to the Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
