William A. Rowan

William A. Rowan (* November 24, 1882 in Chicago, Illinois, † May 31, 1961 ) was an American politician. Between 1943 and 1947 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Rowan attended St. Patrick Grade School and St. Patrick High School and studied at the University of Chicago after that. He then worked for some time in a steel factory. Between 1907 and 1927 Rowan worked in the newspaper industry. He was, among others, publisher and editor of a newspaper in Chicago. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. Between 1927 and 1942 he was a member of the City Council of Chicago.

In the congressional elections of 1942, Rowan was in the second electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Raymond S. McKeough on January 3, 1943. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1947 two legislative sessions. These were shaped by the events of the Second World War and its consequences.

In 1946, William Rowan was not re-elected. Between 1947 and 1953 he was auditor ( Comptroller ) of the Customs Service in Chicago. He died on 31 May 1961 in Chicago.
