William Agnew (footballer)

William Barbour Agnew ( born December 16, 1879 in Kilmarnock, † August 19 1936 in Moffat ) was a Scottish football player and football coach. The former defender was active in his native country and in England.

Career

Born in 1879 in Kilmarnock, William Agnew began his career at the local FC. Later he joined, among others, the English clubs Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Sunderland. With Newcastle he twice won the championship of the Northern League.

In addition, Agnew also represented the Scottish national team, for whom he played three games.

After his playing career he coached at times the club Third Lanark. He died in 1936 at the age of 56 years.
