William Aldrich

William Aldrich ( born January 19, 1820 Greenfield Center, Saratoga County, New York, † December 3, 1885 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin ) was an American politician. Between 1877 and 1883 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Aldrich was the father of Congressman J. Frank Aldrich (1853-1933) and a cousin of Nelson W. Aldrich (1841-1915), who represented the state of Rhode Iceland in both chambers of Congress. He attended the common schools and taught thereafter up to the age of 26 even as a teacher. In 1846 he moved to Jackson, Michigan, where he worked in the trade. Since 1851 he lived in Manitowoc County, where he was also engaged in trade. He also worked in wood processing and furniture manufacturing. In the years 1855 and 1856 he was a School Board in his new home; 1857 to 1858 he was a member of the local District Council. In 1859 he was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly. In 1861 he moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he worked in the trade and in 1876 a member and chairman of the local city council was.

Politically, Aldrich member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1876 he was the first electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Bernard G. Caulfield on March 4, 1877. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1883 three legislative periods. In 1882, he was not nominated by his party for re-election.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives William Aldrich took his previous activities in the commercial again. He also went into the mill business in Fond Du Lac. There he is on December 3, 1885 and passed away.
