William Astor, 3rd Viscount Astor

William Waldorf Astor, 3rd Viscount Astor (* August 13, 1907 at Cliveden, Taplow, Buckinghamshire, † March 7, 1966 in Nassau, Bahamas) was a British peer, businessman and politician of the Conservative Party.

Life and career

Astor was born on August 13, 1907 as the son of Waldorf Astor, 2nd Viscount Astor and Nancy Astor. He attended Eton College and then studied at New College at the University of Oxford. Astor served in the Navy and reached the rank of lieutenant commander there.

From 1935 to 1945 Astor was a member of the House of Commons for the constituency Fulham East. For Wycombe 1951, he was re-elected to the House of Commons and held this seat until the rise of the House of Lords. From 1936 to 1937 he served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the First Lord of the Admiralty.

On September 30, 1952, he inherited the title of Viscount Astor from his father. He also held the office of High Steward of Maidenhead.

In his first marriage Astor was married on June 14, 1945 to the divorce in 1953, Sarah Norton. They had a child together, William Astor, 4th Viscount Astor. On April 26, 1955, he married Phillipa Victoria Hunloke. They had a daughter, Emily Mary ( * 1956). On 3 June 1960, the marriage ended in divorce. Viscount Astor was married to his third wife of 14 October 1960, Janet Bronwen Alun Pugh. They had two daughters together, Janet (* 1961) and Pauline ( b. 1964 ).

Astor died on 8 March 1966 at the age of 58 years in Nassau in the Bahamas.
