William Bowers

William Bowers ( born January 17, 1916 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, † 27 March 1987 in Woodland Hills, California ) was an American journalist and screenwriter.

Life

Bowers worked as a journalist in Long Beach, California and was subsequently screenwriter. He specialized in Western comedies, but also wrote some thrillers. His very first screenplay was spies, love and the fire department around 1942, which was, however, filmed in 1951.

During World War II he served in the United States Army Air Forces, where he met the film producer Arch Hall Sr.. His experience is processed in the script, the hero of the stage. His himself, inspired person was played by Jack Webb.

In 1950 he was nominated for an Oscar The sniper for the screenplay for Gregory Peck westerns. His career then took up speed and he was allowed to remake the screwball comedy write the screenplays My man Godfrey. For the screenplay for In Colorado, the devil is going on, he was nominated along with James Edward Grant a second time for an Oscar.

At A Local Sheriff (1969 ), the film to his last screenplay, he was involved as a producer. He had a small supporting role in the film The Godfather - Part II ( 1974).
