William Brown (congressman)

William Brown ( born April 19, 1779 at Frederick County, Virginia; † October 6, 1833 in Jacksonville, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1819 and 1821 he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Brown attended the public schools of his native Virginia. In 1784 he came with his father in the Bourbon County in Kentucky later. Around the year 1795, the family moved to Cynthiana in Harrison County. After studying law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. In the British -American War of 1812 Brown was a colonel in the U.S. Army.

Politically, he was a member of the Democratic- Republican Party. Prior to his time as a congressman, he was a member of the House of Representatives from Kentucky. In the congressional elections of 1818 he was in the third electoral district of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Richard Mentor Johnson on March 4, 1819. By March 3, 1821 Brown completed a term in Congress. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he retired from politics. In 1832, Brown moved to Jacksonville, Illinois, where he died on 6 October 1833.
