William Burrell

Sir William Burrell ( born July 9, 1861 in Glasgow, † March 29 1958 in Hutton Castle ) was a shipowner from Glasgow.

He was a very successful businessman and a passionate art collector. In 1944 he donated his collection and £ 250,000 the city of Glasgow, under the condition that the collection is housed outside the city. Since 1983, the Burrell Collection can be visited in Glasgow in Pollock Country Park.
