William C. Maybury

William Cotter Maybury ( born November 20, 1848 in Detroit, Michigan, † May 6, 1909 ) was an American politician.

Maybury studied law at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and then attended the law department of the University. Early 1870 he was admitted to the legal profession and practiced in Detroit. 1876 ​​to 1880 he was city attorney of the city. Then Maybury worked 1881-1882 as a lecturer in forensic science at Michigan College of Medicine in Detroit.

From March 4, 1883 until March 3, 1887 Maybury represented the state of Michigan as a Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1886 he opted not to run again and began to practice in Detroit again. 1897-1905 Maybury had held the office of mayor of the city. During this time he ran in 1900 as governor of Michigan, but lost his Republican opponent Aaron T. Bliss.

Maybury died in 1909 in Detroit and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
