William Carruthers (botanist)

William Carruthers (* May 29, 1830 in Moffat, Dumfriesshire, † June 2, 1922 in Norwood, Surrey ) was an English botanist focusing on Dendrology. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Carruth. ".

Carruthers ran from 1871 to 1895 the botanical department of the British Museum. In 1871 he was elected to membership in the Royal Society.

The genus Carruthersia from the plant family of the dogbane family ( Apocynaceae ) has been named after him.
