William Cockburn (ice hockey)

William Hastings "Bill" Cockburn ( born March 1, 1902 in Toronto, Ontario, † 21 March 1975 in Winnipeg, Manitoba ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. In the 1932 Olympics he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team.

Career

Bill Cockburn began his career as a hockey player with the Tammany Tigers, for their junior or senior team, he was active from 1920 to 1926. Then the goalkeeper spent one season with the Montreal Victorias, before he returned to Winnipeg. In 1931, he won with the Winnipeg Hockey Club as team captain the Allan Cup, the Canadian Amateur Championship. At the Winter Games in 1932, he represented Canada at the Winnipeg Hockey Club. In 2004, he was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.

Internationally

For Canada, Cockburn took part in the 1932 Olympics in part in Lake Placid, where he won the gold medal with his team. At the Winter Games he was captain of Canada.
