William Crowther

William Crowther ( b. 1936 ) is an American computer scientist, recreational cavers and game developers.

Crowther worked in the 1970s at the internet pioneer Bolt, Beranek and Newman ( BBN ).

In 1972 he had first written a rudimentary text-based simulation program on the observance of a real cave system in Kentucky, which was extended in 1975 for the first and the genre designating adventure game called Adventure. In the 1970s, William Crowther was also involved in the development of the first multi-user dungeon game.
