William d'Aubigny, 3rd Earl of Arundel

William d' Aubigny, 3rd Earl of Arundel († February 1, 1221 in Italy) was an Anglo -Norman nobleman. He was a son of William d' Aubigny, 2nd Earl of Arundel, and his wife Matilda de Saint- Hilaire.

Aubigny succeeded his late father in 1193 as Earl of Arundel (actually Earl of Sussex ) to. He married Mabel ( † after 1232), a daughter of Hugh de Kevelioc, 3rd Earl of Chester. Their children were:

  • William d' Aubigny († 1224 ), 4th Earl of Arundel
  • Hugh d' Aubigny († 1243 ), 5th Earl of Arundel

During the rebellion of the barons against King John ( First Baron 's War, 1215-1217 ) remained loyal to the king and Aubigny was one of the representatives of the king against the barons at the signing of the Magna Carta in Runymede. With his brother Ranulph de Blondeville, 4th Earl of Chester, he reached the siege of Damietta (fifth crusade ) in Egypt in the autumn of 1218. On his journey home, he died in 1221 in Cainell at Rome, his body was transferred to the Wymondham Abbey, Norfolk.
