William Dixon Colley

William Dixon Colley (born 14 November 1913 in Bathurst, † 17 January 2001, Sukuta ) was a journalist and publisher in the West African nation of Gambia. He was the founder of the Gambia Press Union ( GPU).

Life

During the Second World War, he went to Europe. After a long stay abroad, including in the United Kingdom, Dixon Colley returned in 1963 to British Gambia back. In the same year he founded his newspaper Nyaato Africa, which changed its name in 1964 in The Nation. He remained until the 1990s its editor until it was discontinued for reasons of age Dixon Colley.

Dixon Colley founded with a group of journalists in 1978, the Gambia Press Union ( GPU), in whose honor he was a member for life.

He died 87 years old after a short illness at his home in Sukuta.
