William Duell

Darwin William Duell ( born August 30, 1923 in Corinth, New York, † December 22, 2011 in Manhattan, New York ) was an American actor and singer who played in over 40 film and television roles. He was also in demand as a theater actor.

Life and career

Duel, was born in 1923 in a small town called Corinth with 6,000 inhabitants in Saratoga County, in the state of New York as George William Duell. In his youth, his mother changed his name legally in Darwin William Duell. Duel could build neither "George" nor to " Darwin " a particularly great relationship, later simply called himself William.

Duel visited the Green Mountain Junior College in Illinois and then studied at Illinois Wesleyan University and Yale University. A theater scholarship at GMC is named after him. He portrayed Andrew McNair in the Broadway version of 1776 that shaped him into a popular character actor, who stayed across the entire season of the show and there was never an understudy for this role.

On the screen duel in 1975 was known for his role as Jim Sefelt in the Oscar - winning film drama One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, directed by Miloš Forman and later in 1982 as Johnny, the spy in the popular television series The Naked Gun. Duel played again and again smaller roles like in the movie Silenced condemned as Reverend or in Cradle Will Rock as a butler.

William Duell died on 22 December 2011 at the age of 88 years in Manhattan.
