William E. Wilson (Indiana politician)

William Edward Wilson ( born March 9, 1870 in Mount Vernon, Posey County, Indiana; † September 29, 1948 in Evansville, Indiana ) was an American politician. Between 1923 and 1925 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Wilson attended the public schools of his home and then the Evansville Commercial College. At this school, he served later as a teacher and headmaster. Between 1888 and 1904 he was even the owner of this educational institution. Then he gave up the teaching profession to go into Evansville in the insurance industry. Between 1910 and 1912 he worked as Deputy Auditor in the management in Vanderburgh County. In the years 1912 to 1920 Wilson was usher at the local district court.

Politically, Wilson was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1920 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress yet. For the 1922 elections, he was then but in the first electoral district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Oscar R. Luhring on March 4, 1923. Since he Republican Harry E. Rowbottom defeated in 1924, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1925.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives William Wilson was active in the banking industry. Later he worked for the Chrysler Corporation. He died on September 29, 1948 in Evansville, where he was also buried.
