William Ernest Hocking

William Ernest Hocking ( born August 10, 1873 in Cleveland ( Ohio), † June 12, 1966 in Madison (New Hampshire) ) was an American theologian and philosopher.

Life

Hocking was born in Cleveland (Ohio ). As a teenager he had an inner experience that converted him to the Christian faith during a Methodist congregation. In 1904 he received his doctorate at Harvard University as a doctor of philosophy and taught there until he went into retirement in 1943.
