William F. Lamb

William Frederick Lamb ( born November 21, 1883 in Brooklyn, † September 8, 1952 in New York ) was an American architect.

Life

William F. Lamb was born on November 21, 1883 in Brooklyn. At that time, however, did not belong to Brooklyn New York City. Lamb studied at the Williams University in Brooklyn and later at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.

In 1925 he founded with the architect Richard Shreve & Lamb, the architectural firm Shreve. Followed in 1929 Arthur Harmon, whereby the firm of Shreve, Lamb and Harmon was born. This office designed some famous skyscraper in New York as the Empire State Building and the Building 500 Fifth Avenue (both completed in 1931 ).

William F. Lamb was seen as the main architect of the Empire State Building, although Richard Shreve and Arthur Harmon were involved in the design. The Reynolds Building design was the basis for the design of the Empire State Building.

The Empire State Building was from 1931 to 1972 to become the tallest building in the world, and since 2001 (until 2012 ) again the tallest building in New York.

Lamb died in 1952.
