William Fitts Ryan

William Fitts Ryan ( born June 28, 1922 in Albion, New York, † September 17, 1972 in New York City ) was an American officer, lawyer and politician. Between 1961 and 1972 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Fitts Ryan was born about four years after the end of the First World War in Orleans County. He attended the schools of Albion. In 1947, he graduated from Princeton University in 1949 and Columbia Law School. After receiving his license to practice law in 1949, he began practicing in New York City. Between 1950 and 1957, and 1957-1961 he worked as a deputy district attorney in Manhattan.

After the outbreak of the Second World War, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He held the rank of First Lieutenant and served 1943-1946 as an artillery officer in the 32th Infantry Division in the South Pacific.

Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1968 he took part in Chicago (Illinois ) as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. In the congressional elections of 1960 for the 87th Congress, he was in the 20th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Ludwig plate on 4 January 1961. He was re-elected five times in a row. On September 17, 1972, he died in New York City. His body was buried at the St. Thomas Church Cemetery in Croom (Maryland).
