William Garner Sutherland

William Garner Sutherland (* 1873 in Portage County, † 1954 in Wisconsin) was a pioneer in the field of osteopathy. He was a student of Andrew Taylor Still and developed cranial osteopathy, the goal for John E. Upledger to cranio-sacral therapy.

Life

1898 Sutherland began his studies in Osteopathy at the " American School of Osteopathy " and graduated in 1900 his education. The next several decades researching Sutherland also with self-experiments in the cranial region and published in 1939 the book "The Cranial Bowl ," in which he postulated the skull bone movement and the concept of PRM (Primary Respiratory Mechanism) introduced. In 1951 the book " Osteopathy in the Cranial Field " by Harold Magoun, a colleague of Sutherland, was published to the Sutherland wrote the foreword and that was dedicated to him. This book is the first to describe the cranial osteopathy as a therapy in the form of a textbook.
