Life

William Giffard came from a distinguished family. He was Lord High Chancellor under Kings William II Rufus and Henry I.. I. 1100 Henry was appointed him bishop of Winchester. The Archbishop Anselm of Canterbury was in the question of lay investiture, which offset the whole West in high excitement, unyielding and had the support of the clergy.
