William H. Cabell

William Henry Cabell (* December 16, 1773 in Cumberland County, Virginia; † January 12, 1853 in Richmond, Virginia) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic- Republican).

Life

Cabell was born the son of Colonel Nicholas Cabell and Hannah Carrington Cabell on the premises Boston Hill. He got in his youth private lessons, later studied at Hampden - Sydney College and the College of William & Mary in July 1793 and made its conclusion. After that he went to Richmond to complete his law studies, and ended it on June 13 in 1794. He began his career as a lawyer and went into politics. He was from 1796 to 1805 member of the House of Delegates in Virginia, as well as an elector in the presidential elections in 1800 and 1804. From 1805 to 1808, he was governor of Virginia. In December 1808, he became a judge of the Supreme Court of Virginia.

After two years he was elected on March 21, 1811 a judge of the Supreme Court of Virginia ( Supreme Court of Appeals ). After the reorganization in 1831 he was again elected to the Court and was appointed on 18 January 1842 President. He remained in that post until 1851, but during his last year he was plagued by disease. Cabell died on January 12, 1853 in Richmond and was buried in the cemetery Shockhoe.
