William H. Hammett

William Henry Hammett ( born March 25, 1799 in Don manway, County Cork, Ireland, † July 9, 1861 in Washington County, Mississippi ) was an American politician. Between 1843 and 1845 he represented the state of Mississippi in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Hammett was born in Ireland and immigrated to the United States. There he settled in the state of Virginia. After studying theology, he was 1832-1834 chaplain of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He practiced the same function in the House of Virginia.

Later, Hammett moved to Princeton in the State of Mississippi. He became a member of the Democratic Party as their candidate he 1842 in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC was chosen. At this time the state of Mississippi was the first time four seats in Congress, all elected state wide. It was not until the next elections electoral districts were established. Coinciding with Hammett Jacob Thompson, Robert W. Roberts and Tilghman Tucker were elected to Congress.

Between March 4, 1843 and March 3, 1845 graduated from William Hammett only one term in Congress. Then he withdrew again from politics.
