William H. Ray

William Henry Ray ( born December 14, 1812 in Amenia, New York, † January 25, 1881 in Rushville, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1813 William Ray moved with his parents to Utica, where he later attended the public schools. In 1834 he came to Rushville, Illinois, where he worked in the trade. He was also active in the banking industry. Later he hit as a member of the Republican Party, founded in 1854, launched a political career. Between 1867 and 1869 he served on the Board of Equalization of Illinois.

In the congressional elections of 1872 Ray was in the tenth electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrats Edward Y. Rice on March 4, 1873. Until March 3, 1875, he was able to complete a term in Congress. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives William Ray resumed his previous activities on again. He died on January 25, 1881 in Rushville, where he was also buried.
