William Haines

William Haines ( born January 1, 1900 in Staunton, Virginia as Charles William Haines, † December 26, 1973 in Santa Monica, California ) was an American actor. He was very popular in the late silent movies and early sound era.

Life

Haines worked in an investment firm in New York and won a talent contest in 1922, which earned him a contract with the Goldwyn Studios. He rose quickly becoming a popular star in comedies and after the merger of the metro to MGM Haines was next to Ramon Novarro and John Gilbert as one of the most famous performers.
