William Hartzell

William Hartzell ( born February 20, 1837 in Canton, Ohio; † August 14, 1903 in Chester, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1875 and 1879 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1840 William Hartzell moved with his parents to Danville in Illinois. Between 1844 and 1853 the family lived in Mexico. Then he returned to the Randolph County back in Illinois. Until 1859, he graduated from McKendree College in Lebanon. After a subsequent law degree in 1864 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began to work in Chester in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career.

In the congressional elections of 1874 Hartzell was in the 18th electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Isaac Clements on March 4, 1875. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1879 two legislative sessions. In 1878 he gave up another candidacy.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives William Hartzell first practiced as a lawyer again. From 1897 to 1903 he was a judge for the third judicial district of the State of Illinois. He died on August 14, 1903 in Chester.
