William Henry, Prince of Nassau-Usingen

Prince William Henry of Nassau- Usingen ( born May 2, 1684 's- Hertogenbosch, † February 14, 1718 in Usingen ) was from 1702 to 1718 Prince of Nassau- Usingen.

Family

Wilhelm Heinrich was the son of Walrad of Nassau- Usingen and Catherine Françoise, comtesse de Croy - Roeulx.

Wilhelm Heinrich married on April 15, 1706 Charlotte Amalie, Countess of Nassau- Dillenburg ( 1680-1738 ) and had with her nine children:

  • Françoise (1707-1750)
  • Charles, Prince of Nassau- Usingen (1712-1775)
  • Hedwig (1714-1786)
  • William Henry, Prince of Nassau -Saarbrücken (1718-1768)

5 children died within the first year: Heinrich ( 1708-1708 ), Ameli ( 1709-1709 ), Wilhelm ( 1710-1710 ), Ludwig ( 1714-1714 ) and Johanna ( 1715-1716 ).

After his death in 1718 was succeeded by his underage son Charles after when Prince of Nassau- Usingen. Charlotte Amalie reigned as regent until his majority.

Work in Usingen

Wilhelm Heinrich founded in 1707 named after him place Wilhelm village.

Military career

Like his father, Wilhelm Heinrich was in military service. In 1691, he appeared as Captain in Dutch services and led from 1701 to 1707 as a colonel, the regiment whales. In the battle of Ekeren he was wounded on 30 June 1703.
