William Keeling

William Keeling (* 1578, † 1620) was a British sea captain in the service of the British East India Company.

Keeling is credited with the discovery of the Cocos Islands. On the way back from Java to England, he is said to have discovered the atoll in 1609. However, this has not been definitively proven.

After him were later Keeling Islands ( North and South Keeling Keeling) in the Indian Ocean, the Pulu Keeling National Park and named the surviving only on North Keeling endemic Keeling - banded Rail.
