William Kelly (senator)

William Kelly ( * September 22, 1786; † August 24, 1834 in New Orleans, Louisiana ) was an American politician ( Democratic- Republican), who represented the state of Alabama in the U.S. Senate.

The originally from South Carolina Kelly received a comprehensive education, then studied the rights, was admitted to the bar and then moved to Tennessee, where he practiced law and was appointed to the Judge. From 1818 onwards, he lived in Alabama, where he opened an office in Huntsville.

Following the resignation of U.S. Senator John Williams Walker William Kelly took from December 12, 1822 whose place is in a Congress. In his party he was one of the followers of the later U.S. President Andrew Jackson. Kelly's term ended on March 3, 1825 In the same year he acted then as Speaker of the House of Representatives from Alabama.; there in 1827 was followed by a further term of office. In 1830 he moved to Louisiana, where he died four years thereafter.
