William Kent

William Kent (* 1685 in Bridlington, Yorkshire, † April 12, 1748 in London) was an accomplished landscape painter, the leading English architect, garden designer and interior architect of the 18th century. He is considered a pioneer of the English landscape garden.

His buildings include the Royal Mews, the Horse Guards, the Chiswick House and Burlington House in London and the Rousham House. He has worked in the landscape gardens in Rousham, Stowe and Claremont and created numerous interiors and furniture, for example, Houghton Hall, Holkham Hall, Rousham House, and Hampton Court Palace. He was sponsored throughout his life of Richard Boyle, 3rd Earl of Burlington.
