William Louis Abbott
William Louis Abbott ( born February 23, 1860 in Philadelphia, † April 2, 1936 in Maryland ) was an American physician, naturalist and ornithologist.
He put on rich biological and ethnological collections, for which he undertook in 1880-1926 many trips and expeditions in North and Central America, but particularly in Southeast Asia. In his will, he bequeathed much of his collection and 20 % of his estate to the Smithsonian Institution.
Abbott in honor named numerous animal species, such as the Winkelkopfagamenart Gonocephalus abbotti, the day gecko Phelsuma abbotti, Papasula abbotti ( Abbott or Graufußtölpel ), the Abbott -Star ( Cinnyricinclus femoralis ), the Raupenfängerart Coracina abbotti that Nektarvogelart Cinnyris abbotti and Abbott's duiker ( Cephalophus spadix ) from the group of Ducker.
