William Lyman (inventor)

William Worcester Lyman ( born March 29, 1821 in Meriden (Connecticut ) † November 15, 1891 in Hartford (Connecticut) ) was an American inventor.

At the age of 15 he began with Griswold & Coffee in Meriden his apprenticeship as a pewter - smith and worked there until 1844. Afterwards he worked in the profession until 1880 at various local businesses. He has received numerous patents for household items, such as 1870 for his opener with cutting wheel.

In 1841 he married Roxanne Griswold Frary, which was when he was a year older and also came from Meriden.
