William M. Jennings Trophy

The William M. Jennings Trophy is an ice hockey trophy in the National Hockey League ( NHL). It is awarded annually to the person or goalkeeper with 25 deployments, their team has conceded the fewest goals in the regular season.

The trophy was named after the official Hockey William M. Jennings, who was active as president of the New York Rangers until his death from cancer in 1981, and member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. The trophy was donated by the Executive Board of the NHL and first awarded in the 1981/82 season.

Award and History

Since 1946, the goalkeeper of the team were honored with the fewest goals against with the Vezina Trophy. Prior to the 1981/82 season, the league decided, however, to determine the winner of the trophy as the " Best Goalkeeper " in the future by a vote of the General Managers in the NHL.
