William McKenzie, Baron McKenzie of Luton

William David McKenzie, Baron McKenzie of Luton (Bill McKenzie ) ( born July 24, 1946) is an English Labour politician who until 2010 Parliamentary Unterstaatssekretät the Department for Work and Pensions ( Department for Work and Pensions ) and Department for Communities and Local Politics ( Department for Communities and Local Government ). Youth and early career

He was born in 1946 as son of Donald McKenzie and his wife Elsie May born Doust. He studied from 1964 to 1967 at the University of Bristol, where he received a bachelor 's degree in economics and accounting. He was an accountant at Martin Rata and Partners. He joined Price Waterhouse in 1973, where he worked in many offices. In 1980 he became a partner. In 1992 he went for Price Waterhouse in Hong Kong, where he was first a consultant and then partner. He was from 1996 to 1998 responsible for the Vietnam business.

Earlier political career

McKenzie ran twice, 1987 and 1992, for the seat of Parliament for the constituency of Luton South. However, he was unsuccessful both times.

From 1976 to 1992 he sat in the District Assembly of Lutonund then between the 1999 and 2005. By May 2003 he was the President of the Council. During his time as a councilor, he worked mainly with sih finances. He was währrnd this time a member of the GMB union. Even when Lord McKenzie, he is still a member of the GMB. He was also on the board at London Luton

Later political career

McKenzie was raised on 18 June 2004 as Baron McKenzie of Luton to Life Peer. He was speaker of the Treasury in the House of Lords and Whip of the Trade and Industry Ministry ( Department of Trade and Industry). Prior to the award of the peerage, he was adviser to the Shadow Treasury Team of the Labour Party and a member of the Fabian Society Taxation Review Committee. He was appointed in January 2007 to the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Work and Pensions ( Department for Work and Pensions ). His responsibilities included health and safety at work. In June 2009, he resigned and became a minister in the Department for Communities and Local Policy ( Department for Communities and Local Government )

After the 2010 general election he was opposition spokesman for both work and pensions as well as for communities and local politics
