William P. Wolf

William Penn Wolf ( born December 1, 1833 in Harrisburg, Stark County, Ohio; † September 19, 1896 in Tipton, Iowa ) was an American politician. Between 1870 and 1871 he represented the state of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Wolf attended the common schools and the Holbrook Seminary. In 1856 he moved to Cedar County, Iowa. After studying law and qualifying as a lawyer in 1859, he began working in Tipton in his new profession. He was also a school board in his new home.

Politically, Wolf member of the Republican Party. From 1863 to 1864 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Iowa. Wolf also took two years in part as a captain in the Civil War. In 1865 he worked for the Treasury and from 1867 to 1869 he was a member of the Senate of Iowa. After the death of Congressman William Smyth Wolf was elected in the second district of Iowa in a special election to succeed him in the U.S. House of Representatives. In Washington, he finished between 6 December 1870 and 3 March 1871, the Unopened term of office of his predecessor. In the regular congressional elections Aylett R. Cotton already had been elected. This wolf had to give up his seat on Cotton in March, 1871.

After his short time in the House of Representatives William Wolf again worked as a lawyer. Between 1881 and 1885 he was again a deputy in the House of Representatives from Iowa; in 1884, he served as its president. From 1894 until his death in September 1896 Wolf was district judge in the 18th Judicial District of Iowa.
