William Pettersson

Reinhold William Eugen Petersson, later Björneman, ( born October 6, 1895 in Sandby on Öland, † May 10 1965 in Kalmar) was a Swedish athlete. At a height of 1.84 m his competition weight was 78 kg.

At the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp Petersson won with a width of 7.15 meters, the gold medal in the long jump. He was the first and until 1964, when the Welshman Lynn Davies won, only long jump Olympic champion, did not come from the U.S..

Petersson won in Antwerp, a second medal when he finished in third place with the Swedish 4 x 100 - meter relay. Later Petersson changed his surname in Björneman. William Björneman was a functionary of the International Association of Athletics Federations ( IAAF).
