William Prince (Indiana)

Prince William (* 1772 in Ireland; † September 8, 1824 in Princeton, Indiana ) was an American politician. Between 1823 and 1824 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

The exact date of birth and the birthplace of Prince William are not known. He grew up in Ireland and emigrated in 1796 to the United States, where he settled in the territory that became the State of Indiana. In his new home he began as a member of, founded by Thomas Jefferson Democratic-Republican Party a political career, and took over as captain part in the Battle of Tippecanoe. In 1816 he was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of Indiana. In the same year he was elected to the Senate from Indiana. Between 1821 and 1822 he was a member of the House of Representatives of that State.

In the congressional elections of 1822 Prince in the first electoral district of Indiana was in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Jonathan Jennings on March 4, 1823. This mandate in Congress he was able to exercise his death on September 8, 1824 near the town of Princeton was named after him.
