William R. Roush

William R. Roush ( born February 20, 1952 in Chula Vista, California ) is an American chemist. Roush is a professor at the Scripps Research Institute.

Life

Roush graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles, where he made his Bachelor of Science in 1974. Two years later he received his master's degree and eventually he earned his doctorate in 1977 at Harvard University in Cambridge / Massachusetts at the Nobel laureate Robert Burns Woodward.

After graduating, he went to 1987 to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT ) and then at Indiana University, where from 1989 to 1997 worked as a professor. He then worked until 2004 at the University of Michigan as Warner Lambert / Parke Davis professor. Since 2004 he is with his working group on the Jupiter, Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute ( TSRI ) resident, where he works as a professor of chemistry, and as Director of Medicinal Chemistry.

Work

Roush working in the field of organic chemistry. His research related to the synthesis of natural products, the development of synthetic methods and medicinal chemistry. He is known for his stereochemical studies, method development of the intramolecular Diels -Alder reaction and studies for the stereoselective synthesis of acyclic compounds. Deoxyglycosiden, polyhydroxylated natural products and synthesis of enzyme inhibitors he has also dedicated.
